Sense of Chilean place through textile representation
The Narrative Geographies project explores on the representation of local
geographical identities through textile composition. For the purpose of this project, two landscapes belonging to the Chilean Altiplano plateau have been represented, namely the Atacama salt lake and the Puna grassland.
The project explores how textile art can capture and express the beauty of these
landscapes in a holistic manner. The materials, the colors, the structures, the
textures and the finishings in the textile pieces have been chosen and elaborated toconvey an abstracted but honest representation. The wool is from the alpacas that populate these terrains. The colors mimic those of the shrubs, soil and salt. The textures seek to recreate the cracks from the salt lake and the dry grasslands.
